We have arranged this tour so that, where practical, visits to ancient sites are separated with days at leisure. This not only allows for a more relaxing holiday, but also a greater appreciation of the uniqueness of each site. Included are the buildings of the French colonial period in Saigon and Dalat, the culture and floating markets of the Mekong, the places of importance to the re-unification of Vietnam, the ancient towns of Hoi An, Nha Trang and Hue, the Old Quarter of Hanoi, an overnight cruise on Halong Bay and the important Temples of Angkor Wat. Includes: All airport-hotel transfers, 19 nights hotel accommodation, meals as indicated, English speaking local guides, entry fees to included sites, a/c coach touring. ITINERARY Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon You are met on arrival and transferred to your hotel for 2 nights Day 2: Saigon [BL] A full day, guided visit to the sites of Ho Chi Minh City. We visit the colonial buildings left by the French- the Central Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral during the morning and, after lunch, the Temples of China Town and the Cho Lon Market., Day 3: Cu Chi Tunnels [BL] Depart for the Cu Chi Tunnels, an elaborate network constructed by the Vietcong during the war. Return to Saigon for a leisure afternoon. Day 4: Mekong Delta [BL] Drive south to the Mekong, a region of rice paddies and unspoilt villages. At CaiBe you board a boat for an excursion to the floating markets of the Mekong. Cruise to VinhLong to visit a pottery and rice papermaking workshop, and lunch, then transfer to Can Tho for overnight. Day 5: Mekong River [BLD] After breakfast take a trip, by boat, on the Mekong to the crowded CaiRang floating market, then return to Can Tho for lunch and afternoon return to Saigon for overnight. Day 6: Dalat [BD] Transfers and flight to Dalat, the former French hill station used during colonial times to seek relief from the coastal heat. Dalat has charming colonial villas and a relaxed atmosphere. We visit the last emperor’s Summer Palace and other sites, and view the tea and coffee plantations. Day 7: NhuTrang [BD] A morning guided tour of Dalat before transfer to Nha Trang. On arrival visit the Aquarium and the Po Nagar Cham Towers, then check-in in at your hotel for 2 nights. Day 8: Nha Trang [BLD] A day at leisure in Nha Trang allows time to relax on the beach, or take an island-hopping cruise in the bay, or explore the traditional heart of the city. Day 9: Hoi An [BD] A morning flight to Da Nang and, after a brief visit to the Cham Museum, transfer via China Beach to Hoi An. A short afternoon guided tour includes the Japanese Bridge and a Merchant’s House. Day 10: Hoi An [BD] A day at leisure allows you to explore and enjoy medieval Hoi An. Day 11: Hue [BD] We drive over the impressive Hai Van Pass to Hue and check-in for 2 nights. Day 12: Hue [BD] A morning tour visits the Thien Mu Pagoda and the Tomb of Tu Duc. During the afternoon we suggest a cycloped ride into the ancient Citadel. Day 13: Hanoi [BD] Transfers and a flight to Hanoi. On arrival check in at your hotel and remainder of day at leisure. Day 14: Hanoi [BL] During the morning your guide will escort you to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Stilt House and One-Pillar Pagoda. After lunch continue into the Old Quarter and the Temple of Literature. Late afternoon attend a Water Puppet Show at a local theatre. Day 15: Halong Bay [BLD] Drive to Halong Bay and board a sailing junk for a cruise amongst the 3000 islands of the Bay. Meals and overnight on board. Day 16: Hanoi [BD] Continue sailing until noon followed by return to Hanoi for overnight. Day 17: Siem Reap [BD] Transfers and flight to Siem Reap and, after check-in, follow the jungle roads to the ancient, walled city of Angor Thom for the afternoon. Day 18: Temples of Angkor [BD] An early start as we enter the temple complex from the eastern gate to see the sun rise through the spires. We spend the day exploring both Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm. Day 19: Temples of Angkor [BD] We drive further into the surrounding jungle to the Temple of Boeng Mealea, almost overgrown, and the intricate carvings of Banteay Samre. Afternoon at leisure at the hotel. Day 20: Departure [B] Leisure time until transfer and flight to Ho Chi Ming City/Saigon and onward flight. |
