Excursions on the lake and through the primary forests are accompanied by naturalists who explain the exotic ecology of the region and its diverse flora and fauna. Sandoval Lodge offers an ecologically friendly environment and design with comfortable rooms, each with en-suite, and other facilities.
ITINERARY Day 1: Puerto Maldonado [LD] You are met on arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport and transferred to the quay on the Madre de Dios River for the 25 minute journey to Sandoval Lake. A further short walk and canoe transfer through primary and flooded forest to the Lodge. After lunch and relaxation board a catamaran to explore the lake, drifting to the sounds of Red-Bellied Macaw. Dinner and overnight. Day 2: Sandoval Lake [BLD] An excursion on the lake before breakfast in the hope of an encounter with a family of Giant Otter and fish-eating water birds. After breakfast take a walk though the virgin forest to see towering Brazil-Nut trees. On an afternoon trip on the lake we might see members of the five primate species resident here. Day 3: Sandoval Lake [BLD] Board the catamaran again before breakfast and cruise to find the Giant Otter. After a late breakfast follow the rain forest trails accompanied by a naturalist guide. An evening cruise to view the sun set across the lake. Day 4: Departure [B] Return transfer by canoe, road and boat to Puerto Maldonado airport. |
