This exciting 19-day adventure crosses the continent. Commencing in Buenos Aires, the city of tango, and finishing in Lima, founded in 1535 and known then as the ‘City of the Kings’.
After visiting the sites of Buenos Aires and experiencing this cosmopolitan city, transfer to the magnificent Iguassu Falls for two nights. Then, by air, transfer to Salta, located in the centre of the Argentinean winelands. After seeing this colonial city and tasting some of the exquisite wines of the region, the journey continues north into Bolivia, a landlocked country high on the Andean Altiplano. Here the soaring, snow-capped mountain peaks, the desolate salt lakes and incredible landscapes of the Altiplano are sure to leave lasting memories. After visiting La Paz, the world’s highest capital city, we cross Lake Titicaca to Copacabana, Puno and on to Cuzco, the major centre of the Incas. A full day excursion by First Class train and bus takes you to Machu Picchu. After returning to Cuzco with a leisure day to explore the Indian market, fly to Lima for your return or onward flight.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Tunis   [D]
You are met on arrival and transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 2: Carthage – Kairouan   [BD]
After breakfast, depart for the ancient city of Carthage (circa 814BC), once one of Rome’s greatest rivals and now one of the best ancient sites in the western Mediterranean. Visit the Thermal Bath of Antonin, the Punic ports and the National museum. Continue to Sidi Bou Said, a truly magnificent village with white, Moorish houses. We continue to Marabou and the Bardo museum, an important archaeological museum of the Maghrebian period. We return to Tunis with some leisure time before continuing to Kairouan for overnight.

 

Day 3: Tozeur   [BD]
Morning visit to the holy Islamic city of Okba Ibn Nafaa where we visit the huge Mosque of Okba Ibn Nafaa, the Aglabiden Pool and Saint Abou Zemaa El Balaoui.
After lunch depart for the archaeological site at Sbeitla, then continue to Tozeur via Gafsa. The oases of Tozeur is surrounded by 200 springs and more than 400.000 palm trees. After dinner visit the Dar Cherait Museum.

 

Day 4: Lezard Rouge   [BLD]
Morning departure to Metlaoui for a trip on the ancient ‘Lezard Rouge’ train to the Selja Gorges. In the afternoon we travel by 4x4 to a mountain oasis and Chebika, an old village. Continue to Tamerza and Midis before returning to Tozeur.

 

Day 5: Douz   [BLD]
After breakfast, depart for the Chott El Jerid salt lake and the oases of Kebili.
We then continue to Douz, the gateway to the Sahara. Douz, surrounded by dunes. offers an authentic experience of desert traditions, folk art and customs, and is our departure point for the Mehares safari.

 

Day 6: Mehares in the Desert   [BLD]
Morning excursion (optional) camel ride before departing through the great sand dunes of the Sahara with a traditional Bedouin meal for lunch. Tonight we stay in a bivouac style Bedouin Tent and have a traditional Tunisian BBQ dinner by the campfire. 

 

Day 7: Mehares in the Desert   [BLD]
Explore deeper into the Sahara, seeing the shapes and patterns of the desert as we cross beautiful sand dunes. return to Douz for the night.

 

Day 8: Ksar Ghilane   [BLD]
After breakfast, depart by 4WD to Ksar Ghilane and the 4* Relais Pansea Hotel. This desert resort has an observation tower for views of the surrounding oasis, and a pool for relaxation; an opportunity to experience the desert wilderness and enjoy the comforts of home.
 
Day 9: Tataouine – Medenine – Djerba   [BD]
Tunisia has provided the location for many movies. In Star Wars it provided the setting for the desert planet Tatooine. The English Patient was filmed here. Marvel at these amazing landscapes before continuing to Medenine, an ancient market city. Overnight in Djerba

 

Day 10: Djerba   [BLD]
Day at leisure to explore this resort island. Explore the Roman sites, the pirate castle or the ancient synagogue, test your negotiation skills in the market or experience the multitude of watersports on offer.

 

Day 11: Gabes – Sfax   [BD]
After breakfast departure for Gabes, a sea-side oasis on the Gulf of Syrta. A visit to this maritime oasis can be followed with leisure time Jara souq Continue to Sfax for overnight.

 

Day 12: Hammamet   [BD]
After breakfast, depart for El Jem to visit the ancient Roman Amphitheatre. Continue to Monastir and visit the Ribath and the Mausoleum Habib Bourguiba before proceeding to Hammamet for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 13: Departure   [B]
After breakfast transfer to Tunis airport for onwards arrangements.
