Circuit 4

Argentina- Bolivia- Peru

Small group departure

14 Oct 2011

This exciting 19-day adventure crosses the continent. Commencing in Buenos Aires, the city of tango, and finishing in Lima, founded in 1535 and known then as the ‘City of the Kings’.
After visiting the sites of Buenos Aires and experiencing this cosmopolitan city, transfer to the magnificent Iguassu Falls for two nights. Then, by air, transfer to Salta, located in the centre of the Argentinean winelands. After seeing this colonial city and tasting some of the exquisite wines of the region, the journey continues north into Bolivia, a landlocked country high on the Andean Altiplano. Here the soaring, snow-capped mountain peaks, the desolate salt lakes and incredible landscapes of the Altiplano are sure to leave lasting memories. After visiting La Paz, the world’s highest capital city, we cross Lake Titicaca to Copacabana, Puno and on to Cuzco, the major centre of the Incas. A full day excursion by First Class train and bus takes you to Machu Picchu. After returning to Cuzco with a leisure day to explore the Indian market, fly to Lima for your return or onward flight.

In essence Spain is not really one country, but an amalgamation of several cultures and traditions into one political entity. The country has four official languages and a diverse culture based on its history of Moorish, French, Catalan and other influences. The majestic Pyrenees have always isolated Spain from the rest of Europe , resulting in a country which, today, has an atmosphere very different from its neighbours. Add to this the wealth of Islamic architecture, of which the Al Hambra is perhaps best known, and the incredible cathedrals and other grand buildings dating from the days when Spain practically ‘owned' the precious metal trade from South America .

You will find the cities to be dynamic with a hectic ‘live-for-today' hedonism. Spaniards love to eat, drink and be merry. They have a passion for art and drama. Flamenco restaurants alternate with tapas bars and ‘fast food' paella cafes. And between the cities, travelling by rail or coach, you'll find a vast panorama of green fields, orange groves, wheat lands, solitary castles, beaches and secret coves.

The following tours include various suggested routes and city stays. Each suggested tour can be modified or extended to suit your individual preferences.
