Circuit 4

Argentina- Bolivia- Peru

Small group departure

14 Oct 2011

This exciting 19-day adventure crosses the continent. Commencing in Buenos Aires, the city of tango, and finishing in Lima, founded in 1535 and known then as the ‘City of the Kings’.
After visiting the sites of Buenos Aires and experiencing this cosmopolitan city, transfer to the magnificent Iguassu Falls for two nights. Then, by air, transfer to Salta, located in the centre of the Argentinean winelands. After seeing this colonial city and tasting some of the exquisite wines of the region, the journey continues north into Bolivia, a landlocked country high on the Andean Altiplano. Here the soaring, snow-capped mountain peaks, the desolate salt lakes and incredible landscapes of the Altiplano are sure to leave lasting memories. After visiting La Paz, the world’s highest capital city, we cross Lake Titicaca to Copacabana, Puno and on to Cuzco, the major centre of the Incas. A full day excursion by First Class train and bus takes you to Machu Picchu. After returning to Cuzco with a leisure day to explore the Indian market, fly to Lima for your return or onward flight.

Croatia, the Dalmation Coast and the Balkans are a small but captivating region of southern Europe. Located between the Adriatic sea and the Black Sea the region has been at the cross roads of southern Europe for centuries and, as a result, visitors find a wealth of wonderful treasures; historic harbour cities, diverse cultural traditions and architecture, beautiful beaches, medieval castles, Orthodox monasteries and Ottoman mosques.
Many historic sites within this region now have UNESCO protection. These include the Plitvice Lakes and the remarkable Diocletian Palace, both in Croatia.
Croatia is also home to, arguably, the most beautiful coastline in Europe. It has more than 2000km of rocky shores and beaches, and over 1000 off-shore islands. Here you’ll find quaint fishing villages, the remains of the Roman occupation, and a very Mediterranean atmosphere.
The major cities of the region, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Mostar, all have their charm. The rattly old trams of Sarajevo take you through streets lined with buildings designed by the Turks, the Hungarians, the Austrians; It is a living museum. Zagreb is a delightful mix of east and west with stylish little boutiques and cocktail bars peeping from sober Hungarian buildings. Ljubljana (means ‘beloved’) is a centre of cultural activity with the atmosphere of a self-contended village, while Mostar has at its heart the ancient and elegant Stari Most bridge across the Neretva River and the cobbled streets of the old Ottoman Quarter. Mostar, meaning ‘keeper of the bridge’, has many old Turkish houses and a thriving artist’s colony.
We have attempted, in the following tour itineraries, to include the best of the region, and to ensure that your Balkan holiday experience exceeds your expectations.
