Circuit 4

Argentina- Bolivia- Peru

Small group departure

14 Oct 2011

This exciting 19-day adventure crosses the continent. Commencing in Buenos Aires, the city of tango, and finishing in Lima, founded in 1535 and known then as the ‘City of the Kings’.
After visiting the sites of Buenos Aires and experiencing this cosmopolitan city, transfer to the magnificent Iguassu Falls for two nights. Then, by air, transfer to Salta, located in the centre of the Argentinean winelands. After seeing this colonial city and tasting some of the exquisite wines of the region, the journey continues north into Bolivia, a landlocked country high on the Andean Altiplano. Here the soaring, snow-capped mountain peaks, the desolate salt lakes and incredible landscapes of the Altiplano are sure to leave lasting memories. After visiting La Paz, the world’s highest capital city, we cross Lake Titicaca to Copacabana, Puno and on to Cuzco, the major centre of the Incas. A full day excursion by First Class train and bus takes you to Machu Picchu. After returning to Cuzco with a leisure day to explore the Indian market, fly to Lima for your return or onward flight.

Vietnam

Vietnam is a captivating country blessed with a lengthy coastline, fertile river deltas, spectacular forested mountains and a diverse cultural identity. It currently finds itself at a crossroad between tradition and modernity. Vietnamese cities are a bustling potpourri of narrow, traditional houses, gleaming, glass-faced buildings, elegant French colonial buildings, honking motorbikes and street hawkers selling everything from sneakers to tropical fruit. Farmers wearing conical hats continue to dominate the rice paddies, the lush fields and the peaceful villages of the countryside. Vietnam does not have a national, official religion but Buddhism and the traditional practice of ancestral worship is popular. Among Buddhist and Taoist temples you’ll find catholic churches and Islamic mosques. The people are extremely tolerant of such differences, happy and welcoming to visitors. Exotic, intriguing, stimulating, and beautiful, Vietnam has many postcard-perfect moments to remember.

Thailand- Laos-Vietnam-Cambodia

A unique journey across Indochina. We start this adventure in exciting Bangkok with two nights at a comfortable Middle Class hotel, and a day tour to the Buddhist statues and markets of the city. After flying into Sukhothai we see the 13th C. capital of Thailand and the magnificent ruins of Chiang Mai. In Laos we visit Luang Prabang, exploring the site by TukTuk, and the Pak Ou caves after a cruise on the Mekong River. We then fly to Hanoi where we explore the Old Quarter, see the French colonial architecture and explore the Confucian Temple of Literature. On beautiful Halong Bay we board a comfortable sailing Junk for an overnight cruise amongst the 3000 islands. Flying south to Hue and Hoi An, both ancient cities where little has changed for several hundred years, we experience ancient citadels and local villages. Hanoi and Saigon are always surprising, bustling market streets, buzzing with small motorbikes, interesting reminders of the  war. They are cities rapidly adjusting to a prosperous future. Finally we enter Cambodia to see the incredible sites of Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat. Little can prepare you for this incredible experience. We then return to Bangkok for our final night before returning home.
