Circuit 4

Argentina- Bolivia- Peru

Small group departure

14 Oct 2011

This exciting 19-day adventure crosses the continent. Commencing in Buenos Aires, the city of tango, and finishing in Lima, founded in 1535 and known then as the ‘City of the Kings’.
After visiting the sites of Buenos Aires and experiencing this cosmopolitan city, transfer to the magnificent Iguassu Falls for two nights. Then, by air, transfer to Salta, located in the centre of the Argentinean winelands. After seeing this colonial city and tasting some of the exquisite wines of the region, the journey continues north into Bolivia, a landlocked country high on the Andean Altiplano. Here the soaring, snow-capped mountain peaks, the desolate salt lakes and incredible landscapes of the Altiplano are sure to leave lasting memories. After visiting La Paz, the world’s highest capital city, we cross Lake Titicaca to Copacabana, Puno and on to Cuzco, the major centre of the Incas. A full day excursion by First Class train and bus takes you to Machu Picchu. After returning to Cuzco with a leisure day to explore the Indian market, fly to Lima for your return or onward flight.

Discover the magic of Morocco’s Imperial Cities, the exotic atmosphere of the Medinas (labyrinth market places), the beauty of the High Atlas Mountains and the secret Kasbahs (enclosed, walled cities), the bustling souks (markets), unique architecture, ancient Portuguese fortifications, colourful traditions, friendly people and a fine, aromatic cuisine. You’ll be both charmed and inspired by the atmosphere of this exotic country and the incredible diversity of scenery. No visit to Morocco is complete without exploring the great city of Marrakech with it's red-walled medina that centres on the great square of Djemaa el Fna. Here the city comes to life. During the day el Fna is filled with snake charmers, musicians, herbal doctors, soapbox dentists, while at night 'roll-out' restaurants offer an amazing variety of food. We have no doubt that you will be dazzled by the atmosphere during both day and night.

This route combines the Royal cities with the stunning landscape of the High Atlas Mountains where Berber villages perch on sheer cliff sides that tower above green, cultivated valleys; and the wild Atlantic Coast, dotted with ancient Portuguese-built ports and fortifications.
The journey will take you from the busy commercial centre of Casablanca to Morocco’s capital, Rabat; then on to the smallest of the imperial cities, Meknes. After discovering a little of Morocco’s Roman history with a visit to the ruins of Volubilis, we continue to the holy village of Moulay Idress, then to the country’s spiritual capital, Fez. With its winding alleys full of craftsmen, great mosques, ancient Koranic schools, old working tanneries, incredible architecture and exotic people, you will feel as though you’ve stepped back into a distant era.

We linger in Fez, allowing ample time to explore the crowded labyrinth of the medina. Small shops, selling everything from foodstuffs to silk, from carpets to leatherwork, line a thousand streets and alleys. We then head south towards the Middle Atlas and incredible scenery of either Cascades d’Ouzoud and Imlil, or to the Todra Gorge and Dades Valley.

We return to the Atlantic coast and the beautiful port city of Essaouira. Here ancient Portuguese fortifications surround the busy fishing harbour and the blue and white painted houses lead you into the medina. Our return to Casablanca follows the coastal road visiting the small cities of Safi and El Jadida en-route. We spend our final night in Casablanca where we refresh before boarding our return flight.
